How To Treat Cystitis Naturally

Urinary Tract infections  are very common and vary from uncomfortable to agonising.  Doctors estimate that half of all women will get a UTI or cystitis at some point in their life, so it’s worth knowing how to treat them naturally.

Look out for:

  • A burning feeling when you urinate
  • Cloudy, bloody or strange smelling urine
  • A frequent or intense urge to urinate
  • Pain in your lower back
  • A fever (which means the infection has developed)

Natural Treatments include:

  • Drinking plenty of water
  • Lamberts cranberry powder is great for flushing out the bugs because they are unable to hang onto the bladder walls when this is in your system (you can buy it on the Internet).  Do not drink commercial cranberry juice in an attempt to help yourself – this has no healing properties whatsoever.
  • Baking soda reduces the acidic content within our system, so using this will relieve symptoms – you could put some in a bath and soak in it, or drink 1 tsp in a glass of water 2 or 3 times per day
  • Turmeric has anti inflammatory and antioxidant properties and will also help, but should not be taken alongside anticoagulant medications or if you have a blood clotting disorder.
Homeopathy for Cystitis:

There are a few homeopathic remedies which treat cystitis very effectively at varying stages and it’s simple enough for you to treat yourself .

For mild UTI’s Nat-phos 6x is great.  Take a dose every hour for a few hours and you should get rid of the problem very quickly.  (If you’re wondering whether or not to invest in this remedy yourself it’s also great for indigestion – taking a pill every hour or so will stop the pain and is likely to make the next attack milder until you no longer suffer from indigestion at all).

Cantharis is perhaps a better choice if you are experiencing cutting or burning pains before, during and after urination.  Try Cantharis 30C or 200C and repeat every 30 minutes or so, 3-4 times to see if it improves.  If there is improvement, repeat as necessary until better – if there is no improvement your remedy choice is wrong and you need to select another. (Again if you are wondering whether to add this remedy to your first aid kit – it’s great for burns!)

Apis 30C or 200C is a better choice if the pain is burning and you feel internally rather rushed and harassed.  The last choice is Pulsatilla, this too has burning pains, but a different feeling – normally you feel a little weepy and pathetic rather than rushed and annoyed (Apis).

If you do develop a UTI take the remedy which fits your symptoms and it won’t be a problem for long.  If symptoms persist please contact a doctor or professional homeopath for more individual help.
